At the weekend members of the Wildlife Action team took part in the RSPB’s BIG GARDEN BIRD WATCH. Everyone brought their surveys to compare.

We started off thinking of more ideas of how we could raise money for Wildlife. We were thinking of a Jumble Sale but our local market place only does block bookings and they are all booked up. We only want it for a day anyway. There is a charity market stall but it’s only for local charities and we are supporting Nation Wide charities so that was no good. I’ll keep you up to date with this as the weeks go on.

Then we went outside into the Wildlife Garden and planted some Beech trees and planted them along the side of out far fence to make a hedge. We planted five trees and in three years they’ll be the size of the fence. My Mom, Dad and I will plant more to complete the hedge.

Then we went back inside and had our tea break supplied by Eleanor (Hi Eleanor!)

We started with our get creative scheme to make a Bird Tree sculpture. A tree filled with paper mashay birds. Its also part of our fund raising scheme because people will pay at least 5p each to add a promise to wildlife leaf on the tree. We can raise money out of it as well as completing a section for the Silver Award.

It was great fun working together with all my friends.

January 23rd, 2009

On Monday the 19th of January I restarted The Wildlife Action Science Club. We have already done everything to get the Bronze Wildlife Action Award so now we’re working on the Silver Award.

As part of the Silver Award we need to raise money for Wildlife. We have decided to help “CUAN HOUSE ANIMAL RESCUE” and “The British Hedgehog Preservation Society“. If anyone has read the Wildlife Action blogs from 2008 they will probably know that we had a session about Hedgehogs and these charities are supported or run by Megan (Hi Megan!) who gave us a talk on Hedgehogs.

To raise money we decided to collect stamps, old coins and ink cartridges because the British Hedgehog Preservation Society “BHPS” Recycles these and can make money out of them. We are also thinking of other ideas to raise Money.

We’ve begun our “arty” part of the Award by making a Tree of Birds Sculpture. You’ll hear more about this as the weeks go on.

This Saturday and Sunday for one hour we’ll each be taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch.

I ran another one of my Wildlife Action workshops with some of my friends.

We were creating bird food or bird cakes to put in our gardens to do a bird survey. We each did a recipe from either the Wildlife Action award book or we could invent one of our own. We had five different bird cakes which we have now put in our own gardens to attract birds. I also created a scoring sheet so we could keep track of all the birds that have eaten our bird food.

We have each done a survey for one hour in our own gardens and we’ll see which food is the best to attract birds into your garden. I had around 100 visits within the hour in my garden to different meals we’ve created. I hope everyone else gets such a good result when we next have our Wildlife Action meeting when we will compare results.

We have had moments when I had no birds in the garden due to visits by four crows, two cats, a sparrow hawk and high winds! If we didn’t have the crows flying around then we would have had more visits to our bird table because the pesky crows nicked half the food and flew away with it!

Over the week I’ve been busy preparing for this workshop by buying the wood and nails for the boxes. I had to measure and mark out the planks for them to be cut into the shapes of the front, back, sides, base and the roof so the group could nail it all together the next day.

I also recycled some old inner tubing off a bike tyre and used it as the hinges for the roof so we could clear it out at the end of the year.

It took all Sunday to finish measuring, cutting, drilling and sandpapering all the pieces of wood so that the group had self assembly “packs”. It was great to see it all coming together so neatly. Now my dad needed to step in and drill the holes in the front panel so the birds could get in and out using a special drill attachment. I was going to nail one together to get to grips with how to put it together but sadly the nails I bought were too short. I got some more the next day so that I could put together the sample bird box.

Everyone in the group did an amazing job making their bird boxes. They looked fantastic! The day went very smoothly and everyone now has a bird box to put up in thier own gardens so the little birds will have somewhere to nest in the spring.

Howdy, Bonjor, Hola, Γειά, Здравствуйте and Hi. I’m Elliott E and this Monday I ran a T-shirt transfer workshop. I invited some of my friends to the workshop to make their own t-shirts. I decided to run a transfer workshop because I have done t-shirt transfers before for myself and one of my previous transfers helped me win a school fete in 2004 so I was pretty sure and confident that I could use these skills to run a transfer workshop.

By doing this workshop I wanted to learn how to plan the time and the date, lay out everything that we needed, check that the the computer programs  and the equipment was all working OK. The day before I made my own t-shirt using the same programs, equipment and materials just to check that it was all working OK for the following day.

I wanted to achieve  a sucsessful workshop, I wanted people to enjoy it and I wanted to enjoy it myself. I wanted to pass on my skills to the others and I wanted them to have T-shirts they would be proud to wear.

I wanted to prove to myself that I can inprove on my Bronze Award leadership.

I invited some of my friends to take part in my workshop by telephone and when I thought I had enough people then I phoned them back to arrange a date and time. I then e-mailed everyone with all the details.

My friends listened to the explanations and they understood everything they had to do and I helped them.

I had feedback forms which my friends and their parents filled in after the workshop. They say that they loved the workshop, they loved their T-shirts and they thought I was a good leader for this workshop!

I’m glad they enjoyed the workshop as much as I did and they enjoy wearing their t-shirts!

If you click here you’ll follow the link to see me and some of my friends work.

The My School Musical design is by a friend who works for Disney!

In 2006 Elliott E started up EGEmedia (EGEtv as it was known then) and ran a fan made Doctor Who episode called Dalek Run! Elliott played the 11th Doctor. The Doctor had just regenerated from his 10th incarnation for reasons we do not yet know. As the Doctor's regeneration has been so dramatic he is weak and is struggling to get on his feet as a teenage girl, known as Jane, asks him if he's OK. K.9 rolls up next to her! That's all I can tell you about it for now but I'm planning to get the script up on the web as soon a possible.
