Is the Wii going to have a good 2011?

It’s a question worth asking because the known line-up for the Wii in 2011 isn’t all that big, but the games we are going to have look pretty good. We’ve gotthe Conduit 2 as well as Mario Sports Mix coming out soon (Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has been delayed till 2012), but apart from that there is no need to be excited for the software line-up. So will there be many good games on the Wii this year? IGN has had it’s speculation that it might not but I’m thinking otherwise.

There are a lot of classic Nintendo franchises to bring back for a new game on the Wii. Starfox hasn’t had a good game since his N64 appearance and if the Wii could use the flight controls used in Wii Sports Resort island flyover for this it would be a must own for any fan of the series.

Another game I would like to see is Pikmin 3! If it could feature bright and colourful graphics like the ones in Mario Galaxy 2 ect and use the same controls as it’s “new play control” predecessors it

Will a Pikmin 3 be hitting our shelves in 2011?

would be a great game! They could also bring back the multilayer featured in Pikmin 2 and could now have it online as well, also using the Wii speak allowing the accessory to have it’s first use in a game for a very long time. Who knows! Maybe you might be able to play as your Mii instead of Olimar and could also add some extra characters as well. A new Pikmin game is actually very likely as Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with IGN during 2007 “I certainly don’t think we’ve seen the last of Pikmin. I definitely would like to do something with them, and I think the Wii interface in particular is very well suited to that franchise.” Pikmin is long overdue a sequel and I think Nintendo are planning one.

A Super Mario game might also be on it’s way as there was Galaxy in 2009 and Galaxy 2 in 2010, could there be a new game coming out this year as well? The problem is that the last two entries in the Super Mario series are some of the best games ever made and certainly the best games on the Wii. Can Mario beat his past efforts, or will we just be disappointed with the result? I don’t think it will top the Galaxies but I do think that if Mario has another game on Wii it will be truly brilliant in it’s own way.

What about games being ported over from the PS3 and xbox 360? How about Call of Duty? The recent games have shown promise that they can make the transaction over to the Wii with good graphics, and most importantly, Blackops didn’t remove most of the features that the other consoles had meaning that you where left with just the campain in titles previous to Modern Warfare along side online multilayer. But blackops had all the extra things that the PS3 and Xbox had like zombies ect and even classic controller and gamecube controller support. The only thing it didn’t have was split screen multiplayer. But the next Call of Duty on Wii probably will probably have this feature as more and more Wii shooters are coming onto the market with it. We’ve already had Goldeneye and with Conduit 2 on the way with it’s new split screen feature I’m sure the next CoD entry to Wii will defiantly be able to live up to it’s PS3 and Xbox 360 brothers.

And obviously, there are hundreds of developers pumping out games for Wiiware, a place that is known to have many good concepts and ideas that tend to be carried out very effectively, and you can buy them for a good price!

So I think 2011 will be an ok year for the Wii, but not as big as 2010. Althrough there could be any number of games that Nintendo are hiding from us. For now through, we’ll just have to wait and see.
